Foul Odor in The Farm

2023-4-23      View:

With the expansion of animal husbandry production and operation scale and the improvement of intensification, a large number of livestock and poultry products are produced while also emitting a large amount of foul odors.

These foul odors mainly come from the feces, sewage, bedding, feed residue, respiratory gases of livestock, skin secretions of livestock and poultry, dead animals, etc., and are closely related to the ventilation conditions of livestockfarm and suspended solids in the air.

These malodorous gases will stimulate the olfactory nerve and trigeminal nerve, thus acting on the respiratory center and affecting the respiratory function of livestock and poultry.

Ammonia gas is a colorless and strongly irritating odor gas, mainly produced by bacteria and enzymes in livestock and poultry houses to decompose feces and urine. It is often dissolved or adsorbed on damp ground, walls, and the mucous membranes of livestock.

Studies have shown that chickens are very sensitive to ammonia, and different concentrations of ammonia can have different effects on the health of poultry. When the concentration of NH3 in the chicken house reaches 20 mg/l, the incidence rate of various common and frequently occurring diseases such as coccidiosis will suddenly increase; When the concentration rises to 50 mg/l, it can slow down the respiratory rate of the chicken, cause congestion and edema of the respiratory mucosa of the chicken, and even cause bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema and central nervous paralysis. As a result, the egg production of the laying hens will be reduced, and the weight gain and feed utilization rate of the chicks will be reduced.

2. Hydrogen Sulfide
In livestock and poultry houses, hydrogen sulfide is mainly produced by the anaerobic degradation of sulfur-containing organic compounds in fresh feces, especially when animals consume high protein diets with low digestion and utilization rates, the amount of hydrogen sulfide is higher.

Livestock and poultry that have been exposed to low concentration hydrogen sulfide air conditions for a long time have weakened physical fitness, decreased disease resistance, and are prone to gastrointestinal diseases, heart failure, etc. And there may be autonomic nervous disorders and multiple neuritis. High concentration of hydrogen sulfide can inhibit the respiratory center and directly lead to the death of animals.
